Dr. Tonya Knowlton joined LISD in November, 2017. She comes to Lexington ISD from East Texas where she spent the majority of her 24 year education career in small districts. Dr. Knowlton has experiences as a teacher, a principal, an adjunct professor, a superintendent, an executive director and other central office positions. She is married to her high school sweetheart, Chris, and they have two beautiful daughters. After a first career in a family business, Chris is back in school at Concordia University seeking a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Kaylee is a graduate of Southern Methodist University in Dallas and is in her second year at SMU School of Law. Bree is a junior and is enrolled at Baylor in Dallas, where she is pursuing a degree in nursing. Dr. Knowlton and Chris are excited about being in the community after commuting for the first few months of being on the job. They are both excited about the new chapter in their lives and about becoming a part of the Lexington community. Dr. Knowlton considers herself a student-centered leader. She keeps the students as the focus for all of her decisions,
and she strives to create the best environment possible for students and staff. She is excited about the community, the staff and the students and the successes of LISD. She has a goal of being transparent and collaborative at LISD, and she is excited about working with everyone to make LISD the best that it can be. Dr. Knowlton has adopted a philosophy based on the Japanese business term, Kaizen, which
means continual growth and improvement, and she strives everyday to be better than the day before.
